I am working with my client that has added 3 CAD (Autocad with MEP) workstations. We have a fileserver that is serving up files to the workstations, but things appear to be bottlenecked.

Any suggestions on the fileserver specs?

Thanks
Ralph

Fileserver is Dell T610 - 2-CPUs, SATA 7200 RPM disk, 32GB RAM
Network is 1-GbE on all workstations and server
Network switch supports 1GbE
Workstations are Dell T7500 with solid state disks

Gentlemen:
I teach in a very small Eskimo village here in Alaska. One of the classes I teach is an introduction to CAD. Our district purchased Mac laptops for all H.S. students
to use, TurboCad is program we have to use.
I would like to be able to print out B/C size drawings. Looking online and having a difficult time trying to figure out what we need.
Any suggestions?

So far in this series, I've discussed how to determine if your hardware can handle the AutoCAD 2013 upgrade, how to outline your current and future needs and how to find new hardware if you decide it's time for a new system. If you are looking for new hardware for AutoCAD 2013, here's some specific components to look at closely.

AutoCAD 2013

As I mentioned before, you will be better served if you treat the recommended specifications as the minimum requirements. So let’s say you have determined that you need new hardware to run AutoCAD 2013. How do you pick the proper hardware?

AutoCAD 2013

We started this series by looking at our current hardware and if it’s up for the job. Next, let’s examine if your hardware will still work with your future needs, which may include going from 2D to 3D or adding cloud computing and mobile devices to the mix.

Dear CAD-Speed-Team,

I really hope you and you competene publishers can help me solving a big problem I have with my CAD Workstation.

At the moment I am running an Intel Xenon powered PC with an SSD for the operation system and the files I work on. And an Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 grafic card with 1GB VRam. The RAM is about 16GB big.

To my mind this onfiguration should run really big 3D-modells which I work on. But unfortunatly it does not.

When I first got such detailed Modells of vessels, compressors or engines which were designed in SolidWorks or Inventor I could run them in a normal mode. The last Models I got were so big I can not even open the files. Therefore the RAM was doubled to 16GB.
At least the performance did not change.

So I thought about changing the grafic-card but a new one would be really costly. Therefor I first searched the settings I had within AutoCAD 2012.
I found out that there are only 468MB auf VRam are used, although the grafic Card (Nvidia Quadro FX 3800) has 1GB VRam build in.

Do you know any option, setting, preferance or something else how to activate the full VRam in this case??

sincierly yours
Christian Schernus

PS: if I wrote something you just can not understand, because english is not my mothertoung, don't hesitate to contact me!!
